African Mahogany  Color and Appearance

African Mahogany originates from the forests of West and Central Africa and is known for its warm reddish-brown hue and interlocking grain. Lightweight yet durable, it offers good resistance to decay and a natural luster when polished. Its rich grain color makes it a sought-after wood by fine furniture makers.

Grain and Texture

Grain is straight to interlocked, with a medium to coarse texture. Good natural luster and a high degree of chatoyancy.

Workability and Staining Characteristics

It sands and finishes well, producing a polished surface through the interlocked grain can cause tear-out but can be overcome with sharp tools.  It accepts stain well, although in many applications the wood is left to darken on its own or stained with a mahogany stain to speed up the ageing process.
