This is a traditional design of a cherry shaker side table. I added some additional design features to add some visual interest to the overall feel of the design.
The top has a wide sweeping back bevel to draw your eye into its thickness, adding visual weight to the piece without making it feel bulky. The drawers are dovetailed with a wood pull reminiscent of a James Krenov style, but instead of a straight pull, I added a slight bulge in the center and tapered it to the end to add a little extra visual interest. The pulls are made from maple and attached to the drawer front with walnut blocks. I think I will use an ambrosia maple on future builds instead of the hard maple so that the pulls will darken more and age subtly with the cherry.
The feet are wrapped with a walnut veneer to pull in a little federal style, even though it is oversimplified here. I think the simplification plays well with the overall shaker style of the piece.
