Sculpted Fireplace Mantel
This client came to me wanting something modern and completely different from the traditional fireplace mantel. It had to have no sharp corners, no hard lines, just clean curves throughout. The result is this custom walnut sculpted fireplace mantel with an almost aerodynamic quality.
The profile is what makes this piece stand out. The underside tapers into a wine-glass shape, narrowing as it meets the wall, and the ends pull in slightly from the center, giving the whole thing a sculpted, flowing look from every angle. At 72″ wide, 8″ deep, and 8″ tall, it’s a substantial piece that still manages to feel light on the wall.
It’s finished with a clear satin topcoat that highlights the natural walnut grain. The clear grain lets the contemporary aesthetic show through. On the installation side, it’s secured with a heavy-duty steel wall bracket, so it’s rock solid despite the minimal visual footprint.
