General Process
Q: How does custom furniture design work?
A: Here is an example of a typical design process.
- We start with a free consultation (in-person or virtual) to discuss your vision, space, and needs.
- We create a budget for your project based on the design consultation
- We create sketches or 3D renderings, select materials, and finalize the design before crafting your piece
- A 10% deposit is collected to create the sketches
- Please do give feedback on the sketches; this helps us dial in the design just right. It is common to go through a few revisions.
- Once the design is approved, a 50% deposit is collected to order materials and start fabrication, with the balance due upon completion.
Q: Do you offer in-home consultations in Colorado Springs or the Denver metro areas?
A: Yes! I’ll visit your home to take measurements, assess your space for wood tone color, and furniture style to ensure your custom piece fits perfectly.
If your project is located on the Colorado west slope or out of state, we can meet by Zoom or email. If the project needs a site visit for detailed measurements, we can make appropriate arrangements based on your specific needs and budget.
Q: Can you match an existing furniture style?
A: Absolutely. Provide photos or samples, and we can coordinate finishes, wood tones, or designs to blend with your décor.
Pricing
Q: How much does custom furniture cost?
A: Prices vary based on size, materials, and complexity of design. It is difficult to pinpoint a cost for a custom piece until we talk about what you are looking for. Please reach out for a design consultation so we can talk and come up with a budget. One of my goals is to design the coolest piece of furniture I can to fit your budget.
Q: Do I have to have a budget to get started?
A: No. Tell me about the type of furniture you want me to create for you, and I will tell you what I think it will cost. From there, you can decide if you want to proceed or make changes to the design and dial in a budget you are comfortable with.
Timeline and Delivery
Q: How long does it take to build custom furniture?
A: From design approval to delivery, most projects take 8 to 12 weeks. This can vary based on the complexity of the design, the number of pieces you order, and how many orders are in line before you. I do my best to communicate an estimated delivery date, based on your project and the current workload in the shop. So if you have a particular deadline you need met, please let me know upfront so we can plan for that.
Q: Do you deliver to homes and offices in Colorado?
A: Yes! I handle delivery and installation throughout Colorado. If you are outside of Colorado, I can still offer personalized delivery and installation. For those situations, I will provide a separate quote based on the needs of your project.
Materials and Furniture Care
Q: What types of wood do you use?
A: I source my wood from reputable dealers, and have access to many of the classics (oak, cherry, walnut) and exotic wood like mahogany or wenge. If you have an idea for a special wood style or materials, please let me know, and I will see what kind of availability that material has. I often incorporate other materials in my custom furniture, such as stone, glass, and various metals.
Q: How do I care for my custom wood furniture?
A: If we use any special materials or finishes that require special care, I will provide you with care instructions for those specific finishes and material types. But a good rule of thumb for caring for furniture is:
- Avoid direct sunlight and moisture
- Use a mild, hard surface cleaner such as Bona to clean the surfaces of your wood and stone furniture, and for glass, a classic glass cleaner will work well.
Q: Do you offer a warranty?
A: Yes! I use time-tested construction techniques and quality materials; as a result, warranty issues are few and far between. If one of my pieces is not holding up as it should, please contact me so we can figure out what we need to do to get your piece back up to the proper standards.
