Ebonized Credenza

Credenza set up like a liquor bar in a loft - Custom furniture

This Credenza was designed for a loft. The client I built it for likes to entertain and will use it as a bar in her loft. The inspiration for this design came from a piece she saw in an import shop in her neighborhood. The original piece was the wrong size, poorly built, and a bit too rustic for her taste. The design aspect she liked the best was the natural wood grate on the doors, contrasting the stark black case.

After considering her entertainment needs and style cues from the import shop, I created a new furniture design and custom-made this credenza for her.

I made the main body from white oak, stained it black, and applied a satin poly finish top coat. The door grid work is made from alder with a sprayed satin lacquer.

The left side of the credenza has a shallow drawer for her to store cocktail napkins, a corkscrew, and other supplies she may need when entertaining. The draw slides are wood rails, so she will never have to worry about them wearing out like plastic slides.

The right-hand side of the credenza has an adjustable shelf. The adjustment mechanism is a custom handmade wooden ladder system that supports the shelf.

The doors are held closed with magnets inlaid into the back of the door and a corresponding magnet on the edge of the bottom shelf.

Because it is going into a loft, I finished the back, so if the customer wanted to use it to divide the space, it would look good from all sides.
