This shelf was made to complement the Japanese Contemplation Bench for my client’s spa room. While designing it the client showed me a rake he uses to rake the rocks in his Japanese Zen garden that was held together with a wedge. He asked if I could incorporate that concept into his shelf.
The shelves are fixed with through tenons mortised into the sides and each tenon his held tight in place with a wedge. The top and bottom of the shelf sides have an arch cut into them to add visual interest. The whole shelf is made from walnut and finished with a satin finish.
Sizes are approximate
