Bar Height Table with Steel Patinated Base
This bar-height wine-tasting table was built for a client’s private wine room. The single-column steel base has a concrete insert inside to keep it weighted and stable.
For the finish on the base, I copper-plated the steel first, then applied a chemical blend to develop a patina. It gives the steel a marbled, aged copper look. The warm copper tones pick up the veining in the marble countertops, and the greens from the patina process tie in nicely with the client’s green velvet chairs.
For the top, I went with Wenge wood. It’s a dense, durable hardwood with a naturally dark espresso tone that matched well with the room’s existing cabinetry. A clear coat finish brings out the grain and keeps it protected.
